Justin T. Callais, PhD, is chief economist at the Archbridge Institute and co-editor of Profectus, an online magazine dedicated to human progress and flourishing. He leads the Institute’s “Social Mobility in the 50 States” project and conducts original research on economic mobility, economic freedom, economic development, and institutional analysis. He was formerly an assistant professor of economics and finance at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He earned his Ph.D. in agricultural and applied economics from Texas Tech University and his B.B.A. in economics from Loyola University New Orleans. His articles have been published in journals such as the European Economic Review, Journal of Comparative Economics, Southern Economic Journal, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, and Public Choice.
